Education:

  1. 2006 – 2011: PhD in medical sciences, University of Leiden, the Netherlands
  2. 2003 - 2005: MSc in Biopharmaceutical Sciences, track Analytical Biosciences, University of Leiden, the Netherlands
  3. 2000 – 2004: BSc in Biopharmaceutical Sciences, University of Leiden, the Netherlands

Biography:

Dr. Ruhaak is a Postdoctoral Research Scholar at the Chemistry department. She holds a doctoral degree in medical sciences with an emphasis on the analysis of glycoproteins in relation to longevity from Leiden University, the Netherlands. She developed protocols for high-througput glycan analysis using HPLC, mass spectrometry and CGE-LIF, to characterize a large sample set for its overall glycosylation profile, as well as glycoprotein specific glycosylation patterns. Using several statistical strategies, biomarkers were defined that associate with familial longevity.

Within her postdoctoral work within the Lebrilla lab, Dr. Ruhaak is responsible for several projects on biomarker development using cancer glycomics and the analysis of human milk. Furthermore, she develops new applications for glycan analysis using mass spectrometric detection (QqQ, IT, FT-ICR and TOF).
