Biography:

Stephanie Maroney works with the Foods for Health Institute as a website content editor. She is a humanities student, but shares an intellectual interest with the mission of the Foods for Health Institute. In her capacity as the website content editor, Stephanie works to present research to a broader readership and forge relationships between the sciences and humanities regarding scholarly work on food. She interviews FFHI researchers, covers UC Davis events, and features recent publications by FFH-affiliated faculty and students through news articles on ffhi.ucdavis.edu

Stephanie is a Ph.D. student in the Cultural Studies Graduate Group at Davis where she researches how cultural understanding of foods are constructed at the intersections of race, class, and gender. She is a member of the University of California's Multi-Campus Research Program on Studies of Food and the Body, and is the graduate student co-coordinator of the UC Davis research cluster, Critical Studies in Food and Culture. Her dissertation, "Eat For Your Microbes: Reconfiguring Health and Subjectivity in the Probiotic Present," explores how the emergent science of the human microbiome is changing ideas about what to eat and the meaning of human subjectivity.

Stephanie completed her master's degree in literature at Arizona State University and wrote a thesis that tracked the development of curry in eighteenth- and nineteenth-century English cookbooks. Her thesis was modified and published as the article "To Make a Curry the India Way": Tracking the Meaning of Curry across Eighteenth-Century Communities" in Food and Foodways 19.1 (2011): 122-134.
