Lactation Study


Who is conducting this study?
This clinical study led by J. Bruce German, Ph.D., and colleagues at the UC Davis Foods for Health Institute, and Food Science and Technology, Viticulture and Enology, and Chemistry departments is part of the Milk Bioactives and the Functional Glycobiology Program. This study has been reviewed and approved by the UC Davis Committee for the Protection of Human Subjects.

What is the purpose of this study?
This clinical trial is designed to measure the effects of maternal diet and health on changes of different complex sugars and fats in breast milk over the first year of lactation and to measure the effects of breastfeeding on the development of infants’ beneficial gut bacteria.

Who can participate?
Healthy women in their third trimester of pregnancy diagnosed with or without gestational diabetes that live in the Davis, Dixon, and Woodland areas. Learn more by reading a description of the study.
