The Seed Biotechnology Center Symposium

"Seed Biotechnologies: Filling the Gap between the Public and Private Sector."

The Seed Biotechnology Center is celebrating its 10th year as a center!  To
help us commemorate this event, we are hosting a symposium on the UC Davis
campus May 11-12, 2009, entitled "Seed Biotechnologies: Filling the Gap
between the Public and Private Sector."

This complimentary symposium includes an evening social on May 11th with a
keynote address by Rob Dirks of Rijk Zwaan.  A full day of presentations
will be held on May 12th, with keynote talks given by Mathilde Causse
(INRA,
France) and Molly Jahn (University of Wisconsin).  Panel discussions on the
topics of molecular markers to facilitate plant breeding, transgenic
approaches to crop improvement, and commercialization/regulation of new
varieties will also be covered.

The event is open to the public and we hope you will be able to join us.

Faculty Spotlight

billristenpart FFHI Faculty member, Bill Ristenpart

was recently published in Nature for his exciting new research!  The new study shows that there is a point at which an increased electrical field actually keeps droplets from coalescing.

These surprising findings, published in the Sept. 17 issue of the journal Nature, could lead to improved applications in diverse fields including microchip manufacturing, biofuel and crude oil purification, and food oil processing. The research also increases our understanding of atmospheric conduction.  Link to article...
