Biography
Dr. Zivkovic is the Associate Director of Scientific Development & Translation for the Foods for Health Institute, and the Director of Scientific Development for the Milk Bioactives and Functional Glycobiology Programs. Dr. Zivkovic holds a doctoral degree in Nutritional Biology, with an emphasis in Systems Biology, from UC Davis. Dr. Zivkovic's primary research goal is the development of assessment as well as diet and lifestyle modification strategies that tailor to the unique needs of the individual. She is interested in personalized interventions aimed at preventing chronic disease and optimizing health.
Dr. Zivkovic has a background in lipid and lipoprotein metabolism, oxylipid biology, and metabolomics, paired with specific expertise in collaborative, multi-disciplinary research, research translation, and diagnostic development. In her doctoral and postdoctoral work, she designed clinical studies to investigate lipid metabolism, lipoprotein biology, and metabolomics for the assessment of health and disease. As a Business Development Fellow and Translation Specialist, she gained expertise in the areas of research translation and commercialization. Her doctoral work focused on the development of metabolomic assessment tools for metabolic phenotyping and personalized nutrition. At Lipomics Technologies, Inc., a leading-edge lipid-focused biotech startup, Dr. Zivkovic expanded her skills to include diagnostic development in the area of metabolic disease. Her postdoctoral work focused on the nutritional modulation of inflammation with omega-3 fatty acids, the discovery of biomarkers of responsiveness to treatment in inflammatory kidney disease, and the development of methods for the metabolic phenotyping of inflammation with metabolomic oxylipid profiling.
In her current position as Associate Director of Scientific Development & Translation, she manages several large, multi-investigator research collaborations, works with multi-disciplinary teams of academic and industry collaborators to launch new translational research programs, and is expanding her areas of study to include glycan biology and the nutritional modulation of gastrointestinal and immune function.
Dr. Zivkovic is also the founder of NutriLogix, a personalized nutrition consultation practice, where she consults with private clients as well as groups and organizations, and gives workshops and seminars on the optimization of health through targeted diet and lifestyle modification.
