Research Interests

Research in our laboratory is focused on mammalian embryo development. Our research often involves use of embryo transfer procedures whereby an embryo is collected from the reproductive tract of one female (the embryo donor) and transferred for development to term to the reproductive tract of another female (the embryo recipient). Experiments frequently include in vitro manipulations of the preimplantation embryo with subsequent development to term.

Our research is aimed at understanding embryo development in domestic livestock, but other species (e.g., laboratory species) often are used as experimental models.

Ongoing projects fall into one of four categories: determining the nature of the barrier to pregnancy between species, isolation of embryonic stem cells from livestock embryos, transgenic animals and cloning, and comparative reproduction. Click here for more information about our research.
