Assistant Professor, Nutritional Toxicology & Metabolomics
Department of Nutrition
Department of Environmental Toxicology
University of California, Davis
The Departments of Nutrition and Environmental Toxicology have received approval to open recruitment for an Assistant Professor of Nutritional Toxicology and Metabolomics. The position description has also been approved under the Foods for Health Initiative.
The appointee is expected to develop a strong research program in an area of nutritional toxicology and must bring the rigor and scholarship of his/her sub discipline to bear on important problems faced by the broader initiative of Foods for Health. The successful candidate will occupy a key position in this University-wide multi-disciplinary program in the general area defined as metabolomics, particularly those aspects with direct application to nutrition and toxicology. Priority will be given to those with strong analytical skills relevant to metabolic flux and pattern analysis. Experience in state-of-art product separation and detection is expected (e.g. NMR, Mass spectrometry, electrochemical detection, and/or other novel high throughput platforms). The holder of this position will be expected to conduct both independent and collaborative research in the Departments of Nutrition and Environmental Toxicology under the auspices of the UC Davis Foods for Health Institute.
The specific research program will depend upon the expertise and interests of the candidate. All faculty members who have Agricultural Experiment Station (AES) appointments are expected to conduct mission-oriented, applied research and outreach of relevance to the mission of the California AES. This expectation will be mentioned in advertisements and on the expanded position description to be placed on the web, and will be discussed during interviews. Teaching responsibilities include teaching in Nutrition and Toxicology at the graduate and undergraduate levels. Teaching load and specific courses will be negotiated with the candidate and with the chairs of the two departments. Other responsibilities include student advising and service activities. The position requires a PhD or its equivalent in a field relevant to nutritional toxicology and metabolomics.
Applicants should submit a letter of application, curriculum vitae (including list of publications), description of research and teaching plans, and names and contact information of at least three references. The position is open until filled.
