Assistant Professor of Metabolomics

The Departments of Nutrition and Food Science and Technology are currently seeking applicants for an Assistant Professor of Metabolomics.  We are interested in individuals who have or can establish a strong research program focusing on metabolic regulation, specifically the physiological impact of nutritionally dependent metabolic fluxes and patterns. The candidate must have a PhD or equivalent and demonstrated skills and abilities related to the integration of metabolic data with high information content into physiologically meaningful results.  Strongest consideration will be given to those with a commitment to understanding how foods and their nutrient components alter metabolic responses important to human health and health risks.  The successful applicant will be expected to have or the potential to develop an internationally recognized independent and well-funded research program, which is consistent with the mission of the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences (CAES) and its associated Agricultural Experiment Station, to teach at the undergraduate and graduate level, and to train and supervise graduate students.  The successful candidate will occupy a key position in the new University-wide, multi-disciplinary program (UC Davis Foods for Health Institute), whose aim is to understand the relationships between foods and food intake and human health (see http://ffhi.ucdavis.edu for more information).  Teaching responsibilities will include undergraduate and graduate courses in nutrition and food science and developing courses for the Foods for Health Institute.  The appointment is a nine-month tenure track appointment; however, an eleven-month term appointment will be offered and continued, based on academic peer review.

Applicants should submit online at http://ffh.recruitments.ucdavis.edu a letter of application, curriculum vitae (including list of publications), copies of three relevant publications, statement of research and teaching interests, and names and contact information of at least four references. The position is open until filled; but to assure full consideration, online applications should be submitted no later than November 28, 2008, for a targeted start date of July 1, 2009.  Inquiries can be directed to J. Bruce German, Department of Food Science and Technology, jbgerman@ucdavis.edu.

UC Davis is an affirmative action/equal employment opportunity employer and is dedicated to recruiting a diverse faculty community.  We welcome all qualified applicants to apply, including women, minorities, individuals with disabilities and veterans.

Faculty Spotlight

was recently published in Nature for his exciting new research!  The new study shows that there is a point at which an increased electrical field actually keeps droplets from coalescing.

These surprising findings, published in the Sept. 17 issue of the journal Nature, could lead to improved applications in diverse fields including microchip manufacturing, biofuel and crude oil purification, and food oil processing. The research also increases our understanding of atmospheric conduction.  Link to article...
