Child Health Study Project

Chronic diseases that were until recently only associated with adulthood, are becoming epidemic in children as young as 10 years old. Obesity, type 2 diabetes, and other chronic metabolic and inflammatory diseases are on the rise in children, and preventive health strategies are needed to reverse this trend. The aim of the Child Health Study Project is to recruit children from birth and monitor their health through early childhood. The project involves the development of safe, non-invasive assessors of metabolism and body composition that can be used to monitor health in children. Another aim of the project is to build a sample and data bank that can serve as a resource for the FFHI research community to investigate important questions about children’s health and development. The long-term goal is to develop non-invasive assessment methods, health monitoring technologies, and diet and lifestyle interventions for enhancing and maintaining long-term health and preventing chronic disease.
